BIOGRAPHY
Reid Baker has over twenty years experience photographing Fine and Decorative Art. He is on the photography staff of Christie's Auction House, New York. Before that, he was on the staff of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The wide range of artwork he's had the privilege of photographing include: paintings from the Renaissance to the Contemporary; sculpture from Antiquity to Buddhist gilt bronzes to monumental Moores and Calders; installations by Gober and Holzer; photographs from daguerreotypes to Struth and Gursky; furniture and decorative arts from 17th Century Chinese to Art Deco and Arts & Crafts; graphic arts from rare incunabula to billboard-size movie posters.
Recently Mr. Baker's freelance clients have included the Warhol Foundation, the Howard Greenburg Gallery, and the Bernarducci-Meisel Gallery. At the Warhol Foundation, in addition to helping with their on-going reproduction projects, Reid made contributions to the Catalogue Raisonné of Warhol's considerable work. He photographed John Pagliaro's solo exhibition of ceramics at the esteemed Garth-Clark Gallery. Reid especially enjoys interpreting an art collector's vision: from an all-inclusive cataloguing (for example, the Doris Duke Collection in its context) to discovering the one telling detail, from just a few objects, which reveals a style.
An area of expertise is photographing collections in situ - art in the context of the collector's environment. Reid has a wealth of experience in this area and is well accomplished in synthesizing the essence of the collector's aesthetic. He works comfortably in the delicate environment of the client's private home. His assignments have taken him all over the US, and abroad.
Reid is based in New York City and the East End of Long Island, NY. He is available for assignment in the tri-state area and beyond.
